Dan Williams and young angler Bradley enjoyed a productive trip on Don Pedro. They trolled blue spoons at 27 to 46 feet. The bite was consistent on Rainbows and they also put two nice Kings in the boat. Dan mentioned Don Pedro remains his favorite lake and the look on Bradley’s face when he reeled in his first Rainbow, a 2.5 pounder, said it all.
Dan Bacher fished American River salmon with Kailyr Perry of Kailyrs Guide Service to wrap up October. The short season ended Oct. 31. This is the river he grew up on and he spent teen summers here chasing steelhead, striped bass and carp. Full report will run in the next issue.
The fishing at Eagle Lake is still great. We have limited every trip since the middle of October. At that time, the water had cooled off enough and the fish moved into shallow water. When they got there, they were hungry. We are trolling hot orange flies in the top 5 feet of water in water from 5-20 feet deep. The fish we are keeping run from 21/2 up to 41/2 lbs. I have open days if you want to book a trip. Whether you are fishing with me or not, you are welcome to call me for a current fishing report or info on lodging at Eagle Lake. Get in on this outstanding fishing before winter sets in.
Mike Cooper of MADE Baits caught this brown in the Eastern Sierras. He hit the river reservoir edge during the tail end of a fall storm before check in and found a heavy pumpkin colored buck brown. It was a great start to the trip and a solid way to open the run.
Stripers are active and we are having steady action. We are mixing up approaches each day. We are trolling when they want to chase, casting when they show on top, and we are also drifting live bait when that is the best move for the tide and current window. All three have been producing. Right now we are booking Delta Striper trips through early December. If you want in while the fishing is consistent and the weather is still workable, this is the window. Reach out and get on the calendar.
