Also planting 500 pounds of Tilapia
Planted on the Sand Harbor side of Lake Tahoe.
The kokanee bite has picked up and better fish are running into the mid to upper teens. Troll hoochies and micro hoochies in pink, orange, and red shades. Run them down around 40 to 80 feet. Storage is holding a touch above normal for the date so the lake is in good shape.
The king salmon bite is holding and limits have been common for most boats. Bigger fish are in the mix with some going over 20 pounds. Water is sitting in the upper 50s off the coast. The recreational salmon season closes July 22 and reopens August 1.
King salmon are being landed by boaters near the mouth of the American River at Discovery Park. The fish are bright and fresh from the ocean. The run opened July 16, the first open salmon season on this river in several years.
Halibut and rockfish are both producing around the bay. Work shrimp flies, squid, jigs, and swimbaits for a range of rockfish. Water is running in the mid to upper 50s.
Black bass are hitting topwater baits and soft plastics. Trollers are also picking up holdover trout and kokanee on Speedy Shiners and Apex lures tipped with nightcrawlers. Storage is running well above normal for mid-July, somewhere in the 125 to 130 percent of average range for the date. The lake is full and open across all the arms.
Boaters trolling are putting king salmon in the boat. Tube baits, hoochies, and rolled anchovies are all drawing bites. Storage is sitting right around normal for the date.
Trollers are catching kokanee. Spinners in green, pink, purple, and orange shades are producing.
Kokanee, trout, and all three bass species are biting. Trolling is working best for trout and kokanee. Soft plastics are getting the bass. The lake is holding above 90 percent of capacity.
Channel catfish and striped bass are both going. Anchovies are the top bait for catfish. Trolling Rapalas is the better bet for stripers.
Landlocked steelhead are the main target here. Trolling is the method producing steady action. Most fish run in the 1 to 5 pound class. The lake sits somewhere around 30 to 40 feet below full pool.
Most of the catfish catches are happening near the south entrance. Carolina rigs with bait have been doing well.
Bug imitation jigs working well. Aim for top 20 ft of water columns and oxygenated areas (falls, ripples, etc.) Make sure to go barbless here. You can crimp down the barbs on MADE baits.
