Calaveras Trout
Speedy shiners working well, found around 50β deep. Rainbows up to 9.5 lbs.
Anglers are catching trout near the marina and coves using standard gear, while bass are being pulled from heavy cover, though trout are moving deeper and spreading out.
Trout are active in deeper water beyond 20 feet, requiring long leaders or dock access to stay above the encroaching shoreline weeds.
Productive trout fishing is happening at depths of 20 feet or more using long leaders to clear the weeds, with catfish starting to hit liver or dough baits.
Bass are being caught in heavy weeds using weedless plastics, while trout remain active near the dam and docks following the plant.
Trout and smallmouth are biting along rock walls and shallow beaches near the marina, with fish from the latest plants spreading into the main body.
Trout are hitting bright lures and spoons in the main water, while largemouth are holding in shallow weeds and submerged structure.
