🎣 California Fish Plants for 12/14/2025 - 12/20/2025 25k hitting this week, trout are surfacing Winter’s chill is prime time for hooking into hungry trout, and anglers across California have plenty to look forward to. This week, California is expected to have 24,625 lbs. of trout planted across 40 locations. With unannounced plants, last week saw a revised total of 40,175 lbs. of trout across 50 locations. Trout are in the water, jigs and spoons when cast in top 10’ seem to do well for most anglers. Get out there before the rain comes back!
Devon Hammonds of Magic Fish Water reported from Echo Park in downtown LA with solid trout action on a recent afternoon outing. The weather was mild and comfortable, setting up perfect conditions for fishing from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Devon and his friends found the trout schooled up near the statue on the side closer to the road, by the billboard explaining Echo Park. It felt like almost every cast was a hit with Magic Fish Water Twisters and regular traditional spoons, where jigs worked low and slow along the bottom produced steady bites. Top colors included brown, golden black, and yellow and white. Everything was soaked in Magic Fish Water Rusty Garlic scent and Salmon Ken scent, which gave them an edge and helped trigger the action. The session yielded around 22 rainbow trout in the 1-3 lb range. Since these were state-stocked fish and Echo Park does not get stocked often, all were released to keep the fun going for others. Plenty of trout are out there right now, so hit the water with Magic Fish Water scents and spoons for some strong results.
Reel Addiction Sportfishing checked in from San Francisco Bay with impressive results from a recent combo trip, yielding 80 crab, 80 rockfish, 16 lingcod, and one petrale sole. The bite has been solid for these species, delivering top notch hauls for anglers on board. Availability remains open for trips on December 15 and 16, so anglers should call to book spots. With rain expected to start on Friday, get out while the weather holds up.
The Durasnare team reported in from a recent crabbing outing at Lawson’s Landing, where the action proved to be a grind but yielded a strong finish with a few Dungeness crab. Fellow crabbers nearby also relied on Durasnare crab snares for their efforts. Many have had success with the 8oz Durasnare models, as Lawrence Ngai, founder and owner of Durasnare, has continued to improve the snares, making it quickly become the most popular brand in California. Anglers can find him at the upcoming International Sportsmen’s Expo in January. To access Lawson’s Landing, drive to Dillon Beach and park at the Dillon Beach parking lot, with about 1.5 miles of beach and shoreline available. Get out there and give it a shot while the season is on.
