8/10: New Melones offered a mix of opportunities this week. Bass were biting on dropshots, shakyheads, and jigs around deep structure, though the cooler water slowed the action. Early and late topwater bites were solid, especially near busting fish. Kokanee and trout showed up for trollers using purple and pink hoochies behind dodgers at medium depths.
The weather was cool and calm, perfect for watching bird activity to locate feeding fish. A versatile approach was key to making the most of the day.
