We kicked off the fall season at Convict Lake with a solid start by planting 2,100 lbs. of trout. As the temperatures continue to cool down, conditions are becoming ideal for both anglers and the fish themselves. The colder water helps drive the trout closer to the surface, making the lake even more attractive to those fishing from shore, and the plant ensures there’s plenty of action to be had.
This time of year, the Eastern Sierras become a hotspot for trout fishing, and Convict Lake is no exception. With the fresh stock, the season is shaping up to be one of the best. As the trout settle in, anglers can expect them to become more active and aggressive in the coming weeks, creating prime conditions for both beginners and experienced fishers alike. The cooler weather also means fewer crowds, offering a peaceful fishing experience in one of California’s most scenic spots.
The weather this season has been on the colder side, with highs in the upper 40s, adding a crispness to the air and reminding us that winter isn’t far off. Winds can sometimes pick up, as they did recently, reaching over 15 mph, which may affect kayak fishing. On breezier days, shore fishing tends to be the better option. But whether you’re on the shore or the water, the recent trout plant is bound to make for some exciting fishing over the next few weeks.
